Those displaced included an older couple who lived in the cottage, along with four people who lived in an adjacent house that sustained collateral damage. Sherwin confirmed that the house residents included a woman, her son and two other individuals.

The structure, at 228C Smith Ridge Road (Route 123), sustained significant damage due to the fire on Thursday, June 19.

Sherwin noted the cooperative response among neighbors. For example, one neighbor got in touch with police upstate as a way to notify the daughter of the older couple. According to Sherwin, the woman who lived in the affected adjacent house took the couple to a relative's Connecticut residences and they were subsequently reunited with their daughter.

Sherwin also mentioned that both of the couple's dogs were accounted for. There were five Red Cross volunteers at the site, she stated.

On its Facebook page, the Vista Fire Department mentions departments that provided mutual aid. They included South Salem, Goldens Bridge, Pound Ridge, Mount Kisco, Bedford Hills, Ridgefield and New Canaan, along with Wilton's EMS.
