A woman reported to county police that she was jogging with her dog on the brown trail about 12 p.m. when a man came up behind her and knocked her to the ground. After a brief struggle with the assailant, she was able to break free and run to safety, police said.
She called a family member who reported the incident to Parks Department staff at Ward Pound Ridge. A parks employee then notified police.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, described the man as a white male, possibly in his 40s, who was unshaven and gaunt-looking. He was wearing a green camouflage jacket, green camouflage pants and black gloves. The motive for the assault is unclear, according to police.
Westchester County Police patrol officers, a tracking canine and the Aviation Unit helicopter were deployed to search for the suspect. The New York State Police, Pound Ridge Police Department and the Lewisboro Police Department also assisted. The suspect could not be located and the search was terminated after about four hours.
County police are asking anyone with information to call 914-864-7701. All calls are confidential.
At 4,315 acres, Ward Pound Ridge reservation is the county’s largest park and is located in both Pound Ridge and Lewisboro.
