Odell announced a "Standing Up For America" event at Lake Gleneida in Carmel on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. The event will feature the playing of the national anthem.
"Let’s make this a huge event and show how Putnam County Stands up for America," Odell said.
Odell said standing up for the national anthem is not political.
"It is not about liking or agreeing with a person serving in office," Odell said. "It is about paying respect to all the men and women who have and continue to risk their lives for our freedoms. Freedom isn’t free and the very least one could do is stand for the National Anthem every time it is played."
On Friday, President Donald Trump criticized NFL players who kneel for the anthem and said the league should fine or suspend them, calling them sons of bitches.
Odell did not respond to questions on whether she agrees with President Trump's remarks or language. Last month, Odell did not respond to questions about Trump's comments following the events in Charlottesville.
