GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. -- Former state Assemblyman Bob Castelli is hoping to get back into state government.

Castelli, who served as assemblyman for almost three years, is hoping to become state senator in the 40th district, replacing Greg Ball, who is not running for re-election.

Castelli is running in the Republican primary on Tuesday, Sept. 9, against Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy. The 40th district covers Pleasantville, Armonk, Bedford, Yorktown, Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, Mount Kisco, North Salem, Peekskill, Pound Ridge, Somers and parts of Putnam and Dutchess County.

The former assemblyman said he is patriotic, unwavering and committed.

"I have always seen my role as that of a teacher and mentor," Castelli, a father of two who has worked as a professor and military and state police instructor, said

A competitive shooter and outdoorsman, Castelli said he is passionate about veterans, conservation and the environment, public service and upholding the rule of law and the Constitution.

Castelli said not being the choice of the party bosses in Albany has made his campaign not easy.

"Fortunately a lot of passionate people have stepped up to support the campaign," Castelli said. "I am very grateful."
