The two organizations are the largest public safety unions in their fields in New York state. PCNY represents 214 police associations, eight regional police conferences and one retired police association, and has more than 25,000 members. UFA is the main union to represent FDNY firefighters.
“I am truly humbled to add the Police Conference of New York to the list of organizations supporting my candidacy,” said Murphy, a Republican Yorktown Town Board member. “As a father of three kids, protecting our communities is one of my highest priorities, and I look forward to our work together once I get to Albany.”
The UFA hosted a political action day on Tuesday, Sept. 9, the day that Murphy won the primary over his two opponents, and plans to continue supporting him.
PCNY President Richard Wells sent a letter choosing Murphy because of his commitment to its “objectives [to] the protection of the interests of police officers, the sponsorship of legislation perceived to be in their best interest and giving of aid and assistance to police officers and police organizations.”
Other agencies that have recently expressed support for Murphy include the Affiliated Police Association, AFSCME, CSEA and United Fire Officers Association.
