Monti, however, says that there may have been a problem with one voting machine and that absentee ballots may not have been accounted for.
“I understand there are some machines somewhere that still have votes inside them,” Monti told Daily Voice. “I don’t know the full story.”
As of midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 5, the results show Aronchick, the Democratic candidate, defeated Monti, the Republican candidate, with 843 votes to 824 votes.
“The campaign run by my competitor and his surrogates was nasty and dirty,” said Monti. “Not typical of what you’d see in North Salem I don’t like that kind of behavior, and I didn’t engage in that type of behavior.”
Aronchick could not be reached for comment.
Monti was appointed to the seat due to the death of Bruce Buchholtz. The seat is scheduled to be up for a regular election next November.
