Shirley Smith, 89, Retired Cosmetician Of Danbury

DANBURY, Conn. – Shirley C. Smith of Danbury died Jan. 5 at Danbury Hospital. She was 89.

Smith was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Vineyard Haven, Mass., to Henry and Mae Wiener Cronig. She attended Massachusetts schools and graduated from Mount Ida Junior College in Newton, Mass. She was married to Rubin Smith, who predeceased her.

A retired cosmetician, Smith was a resident of Danbury for 20 years, coming from Fort Lee, N.J. She was a member of the United Jewish Center of Danbury and an advocate for the awareness of and research into Tourette’s Syndrome, her family said.

Smith is survived by a son, Jeffrey Kramer; a daughter, Marjory L. Kramer; two stepsons, Mark Zuckerman and Ronald Zuckerman; a sister, Carole Abrahams; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at the United Jewish Center in Danbury. Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home handled arrangements.
