Increase Miller Elementary Celebrates 50th Anniversary

GOLDENS BRIDGE, N.Y. -- Members of the Increase Miller Elementary School community celebrated its 50th anniversary recently with an outdoor ceremony.

The ceremony, held on May 29, included readings of poetry from students, unveiling of a commemorative banner and a gathering at a newly planted tree.

The tree gathering included students bringing over dirt to place by its base, while the tree itself had a figurine of an eagle perched. The eagle serves as the mascot for IMES. An inscription band was also affixed to the tree.

IMES parent and alumnus Jonathan Monti gave history lessons to the students, who were gathered in front of the school. He spoke about old school buildings in Lewisboro and talked about the the namesake of IMES. Increase Miller, according to Monti, was a prosperous dairy farmer and a was called a “generous person as well.”

Addressing fifth-grade students, Principal Kerry Ford mentioned their final weeks at the school and said it is a “very special time for you to reflect upon all your years here.”

Also mentioned at the ceremony was a tile display project, which was worked on by IMES students and two Girl Scouts. The scouts, IMES alumni and current John Jay Middle School students Sarah Siegel and Sophia Peris, gave remarks at the celebration.
