Students across the country, including those in Carmel, showed their frustration with lawmakers on Wednesday by taking part in the ENOUGH National School Walkout .

Two Carmel High School students, Anne Pozner and Taylor Smith, led the way as part of the school's student activists.

Following the event, the two said: "The reason for this walkout is to make known to Congress that we will no longer lay quiet as they sit and ignore the obvious need for gun law reform in our nation."

Both students said the walkout is a call to action for government officials to do something before another tragedy occurs.

"Time and time again we have watched a mass shooting occur, our government sends their thoughts and prayers, and within a week it is forgotten about," they said.

They decided to get involved because they will soon be the ones running the country:  "Our generation is tired of watching adults let our country fall apart."

One key message the group of students strived to send was that thoughts and prayers don't stop shooters, and they don't resurrect the innocents who have been gunned down in school, at church, or at a concert.

"We are not asking Congress, we are telling Congress that we will no longer be a puppet to the NRA, we will do what is right for our country," they said. "We want ACTION and we want it now."

Changes they hope to see include background checks, limitations on gun sales or a combination of both.

"We will not fall quiet until there is change," the students said. "We will never forget. Change is coming, and it is coming now."
