The fair featured picture books, chapter books and crafts, and a special appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog who dished out handshakes and hugs to the kids.

“The students really like it,” said Library Assistant Esmelinda Bucchignano, who organized the week-long event, as she walked around the library helping students make selections tied to characters or activities they liked.

A big cowboy boot drawing contributed by one classroom and western-themed posters hung in the library to publicize the theme of this year’s fair – The Wild, Wild West.

Before the fair, students made up wish lists of books they hoped to purchase. Those lists, together with staff donations, helped get books to some students who otherwise would have been unable to buy them.

Thanks to the fair’s success, Bucchignano said the schools would receive about $700 in Scholastic “book dollars” that will go toward new books for the joint library.
