The information sought from alumni, they said, is "very useful, but very hard to get."

Posted on surveymonkey.com, it asks grads if they went on to college, what they studied there, what degrees they may have earned and if they changed colleges, or dropped out, and why.

It asks them to address any difficulties they may have had applying to colleges, to talk about anything about college that surprised them, and to come up with suggestions for improving the high school experience.

Grads are also asked to advise current eighth-graders on what they think they should do during high school to get ready for college.

The school district plans to send out the same survey each year for the next five years because, it said, it expects that grads' "North Salem education will evolve" as they progress through college and/or careers.
