North Salem High's Class of 2013 Graduates

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – North Salem High School’s 51st Commencement Exercises took place on Tuesday evening at Katonah’s Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. The gloomy weather did not dampen spirits, as 117 seniors strode in to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance” processional and took their places in the audience.

After the Senior Madrigals sang the national anthem and Principal Patricia Cyganovich delivered welcoming remarks, National Merit Commended Scholar Catherine Devey gave the salutatory address.

Cyganovich presented graduating students with scores of awards, sponsored by faculty members, local businesses, civic organizations, athletic organizations and a number of awards and scholarships given in memory of loved ones.

National Merit Commended Scholar Jason Teplensky spoke as valedictorian. Cyganovich again took the microphone to address the graduating class with words of congratulations and inspiration and diplomas were at last presented by George Bovino, assistant principal of the North Salem Middle/High School.

The Class of 2013 comprised numerous Regents Honors and Advanced Regents Honors students, more than two dozen winners of the President’s Award for Educational Achievement and nearly as many winners of the President’s Award for Education Excellence. Both of the President’s Awards reward students who work hard to give their best effort in school, often in the face of special obstacles to their learning. The criteria for the awards differ slightly. Winners are chosen by the school principal.
