North Salem Residents in Education News

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Kaitlyn Cocuzzo and Alexa Salvato are among the students who have been been awarded the 2012 Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience by St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt.

Winners were presented with copies of “First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers” written in 2000 by St. Michael’s alumna, Loung Ung. The prize is awarded annually to high school juniors throughout the country who have been named to the National Honor Society, or its equivalent, and have demonstrated leadership in community service.

Cocuzzo is a student at John Jay High School, Salvato attends North Salem High School. Both students live in North Salem.

In other education news, the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Mass., has announced the awarding of a tuition scholarship to 2012 North Salem High School graduate, Claire Diehl. Diehl was one of the 83 applicants accepted from a group of about 800.
