NORTH SALEM, N.Y. --  Pequenakonck Elementary School is supporting the Ben's Bells Project by promoting kindness through its Kind Campus program.

Kind Campus is based on the idea that everyone has the ability to be kind. The program's goal is encouraging children to incorporate intentional kindness into their lives to create a community of kindness at school and at home. This year, the students are learning what it means to be kind and ways to promote kindness.

Students have participated in classroom discussions and activities designed to empower them to demonstrate kind acts independently.

One special activity the school is introducing this year is a monthly “mini-belling.” Once a month, a student demonstrating kindness will be awarded a mini-bell.

Students and staff are encouraged to nominate another student who shows kindness on a regular basis. Nomination forms are available on the school's “Be Kind” bulletin board outside the multipurpose room.

The student awarded a mini-bell will receive a special certificate and have their picture taken. They will also get to keep the bell in their possession to celebrate with friends and family for one week. Then the bell will be returned so it may be passed on to another kind student. A student from each grade level will be chosen each month.

Anyone interested in participating in the bell initiative can fill out the form and submit it to his or her teacher, or place it in an envelope on the board.
