NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Not many kindergarten classes have songs of their very own, but the PQ students do and they sing it when they go to music class, when they go to recess, when they line up for the school bus, and during Friday Frenzy.
The Kindergarten Song is the first one Paraprofessional Britt Togonon wrote for PQ. That was five years ago. I walked around with the melody in my head and I had the words, but I couldnt write the music. PQ teacher, Eileen Nicita, put the music to the words.
I wanted to write a song about the values that the school promotes, but I wanted to incorporate some literacy in it. They learn to spell in kindergarten, so in this song they learn to spell the name of our school and the word, kindergarten.
This years kindergarteners had their first practice session on Monday. They learn the song in no time, Togonon said.
In case you want to sing along, this is how it goes:
We are the kindergarten of PQ!
Youre a friend to me
Im a friend to you
Together we are a family
Tiger cubs in the PQ community!
Cooperation and caring
Honesty, respect, and sharing
Mix in some smiles and fun
Its the recipe for a good person!
(Repeat first verse)
We write our ABCs
We count our 1,2,3s
But most of all
To love to learn!
Hooray kindergarten! Hooray PQ!
You are my school and I love you!
