Head Coach Bob Esposito, entering his 15th season with the team, believes this year's Dragons, now a more experienced group, can be even better.
"We have most of our starters back," Esposito told Daily Voice. "We were young last year, so now we have some experience."
Where the Dragons are lacking experience, however, is in the goal, where a number of players are vying for the starting position.
"We are battling a lot of minor injuries right now," Esposito said. "We're working on getting them better so we can open the season at full strength."
Dover will be looking for players like team captain Jamal Williams (sr, M), Matt Cropley (jr, M), Kenny Joseph (sr, M) and Steve Caione (jr, D) to lead the team.
"We're looking for them to organize and lead," Esposito said. "Show the younger players the way."
Esposito added that he believes the team has the potential to take the next step as the season progresses. "We set goals each year," he said, "and winning the league is one. Then, if things go well, I think we could do some damage in the playoffs."
Dover is set to open the 2016 season Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Ellenville at 4:15 p.m.
