Sommer, a senior and four-year starter at second base for Mount Saint Mary's College in Newburgh, broke the school's all-time hits record last week.
The prior record was 140 hits in 140 games. Sommer, as of this writing, had 149 hits so far this season in 106 games.
Sommer - who broke the record during an 11-6 win against Saratoga Springs March 15 - was also named the MSMC Athlete of the Week for last week.
Sommer started her MSMC career with a bang, setting the single-season hits record her freshman season.
During her junior year, she was named First Team All-Skyline Conference, and made the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athlete List (must maintain a 3.5 GPA for 2015/2016 academic year). The team was Skyline Conference Champ, and Sommer helped lead her team to the college's first-ever win in a NCAA Championship game.
Sommer has remained on the academic honor roll each year as well.
