North Salem's Burdett Qualifies for State Event

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- North Salem High School runner Cullin Burdett qualified for the the New York State Track and Field Championships in the 3,200-meter event and will face the state's best middle-distance runners Saturday at North Cicero High school In Syracuse.

Burdett, a sophomore, is also the reigning Section 1 Class C champion at the 1,600-meter distance after winning the title at the Class C meet at Valhalla High School on May 23. He qualified for the 3,200 with a strong finish over the final meters of the Section 1 state qualifier on June 1.

"You try different distances and events in middle-distance running," Burdett said after winning the 1,600 title. "I like the individual challenge of getting better and better and working hard to improve. I'm looking forward to finishing the season strong."
