NORTH SALEM, N.Y. ? North Salem High School long jumper Alex Monaco set a school record to lead a group of the school's young track and field athletes Friday in the Section 1 Frosh/Soph Meet at Rockland Community College.

Monaco, a sophomore, jumped 20-feet, 2-inches to eclipse the former mark set in 1986. He won his first Section 1 Class C outdoor title last May as a freshman and has added two feet to his indoor best since last winter.

North Salem sophomore Alexandra Stefankowski took third in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:31.50 and freshman Muiread placed fourth in 3:31.80 to earn medals.

Gemma Nuttall, a freshman, ran 1,500 meters in 5:31.90 to take fifth place overall, and teammate Conor Kelly ran an 8.05 in the 55-meter dash to place fifth.
