Register For Deer Hunting in Westchester Parks

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Westchester County has announced that Muscoot Farm, Lasdon Park & Arboretum, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation and Mountain Lakes Park will be open for bow hunting deer in the autumn.

Applicants must prove Westchester County residency and must pass a proficiency test, to be offered at Blue Mountain Sportsman Center on June 23, June 29 and July 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In order to qualify, hunters must hit a 9-inch target at 25 yards, using field tips only. Three out of five attempts must be successful. Applicants who pass the test will then be chosen by lottery to receive a permit.

There is no fee for the test, but winners of the lottery must pay an administrative fee of $40. Applications are available on the county website and must be received before June 20.

The deer hunting season will run from October through December 31. The parks will remain open to regular visitors, with information signs posted for both hunters and visitors.
