I would be interested in involvement with the Partnership, or one of the committees. It seems you are working against some good projects. What committees are there, and how does one go about joining? It is written that we can join by simply attending a Partnership meeting. Can you advise as to the next scheduled meeting so I can try and attend? It is a little confusing, so any further info is appreciated. Ben View Comment
No, I never considered that??? If what you say is true, these place you mention should drastically change whatever deer mgnt program they have in place -- it is supposed to limit/control the deer population and help the environment on the whole. Where exactly are you hearing of these other cases? Please share View Comment
And we have 2 members of the Pound Ridge Town Board that voted AGAINST the deer management program just 3 short weeks ago. It seems that some were sickened by the idea of killing any animals, ever - so dramatic! I suppose car accidents involving and killing humans is ok, but lets not control the deer population.
Keep this in mind when you vote in November. View Comment
This concept is so ridiculous that it is difficult to comment. I work hard to provide for my family - and have made many sacrifices along the way in order to make ends meet. Nobody ever gave me squat, and i do not expect anything. If you want to live somewhere, earn it - there is so much opportunity in the great USA. Government should not have any say in where people live - they want to give you things, and control you. There is already so much wasted money through government programs. This is another example of a dumb idea, pushed by dumb and selfish politicians. View Comment
I hope they did not have to scare or threaten the poor helpless young boy with any interogation, in order to get the info. Poor thing.
I wonder if the possibility exists of any other threats. And, I wonder if maybe this kid has other friends like him here or abroad, and can share information about bomb types or popular targets that these extremists may be intersted in destroying. This and any info is helpful in preparing for threats and improving security and saving American lives. Unfortunately, some people claim 'let's not interogate him - we cannot stoop to there level....'

He should never have even taken an interview with Piers Morgan - the show is a joke, and totally one-sided. Nobody watches it or cares what the Brit has to say - check the ratings. I stand behind what Senator Ball said. This person is a terrorist - and if it takes some torture for him to share info that saves lives (or limbs) than do it. Nobody is 'stooping' to a level of inhumanity, with a 'knee jerk' reaction. If the piece of garbage terrorists gives up plenty of info on his own, i am sure there will be no torture at all - that too is his choice, much like when he chose to assisinate the MIT cop, or build a bomb to kill civilians at the marathon.
And, BTW - our president is a wimp too. He refuses to call it 'radical Islamic terrorism' and lets the guy lawyer up so he will not share any info, and cost the country another many million dollars with some 'trial' charade. Obama is a disgrace, and Greg Ball is a concerned senator who has a backbone. Who would you rather have with you in a foxhole when someone is threatening your family? Ball represents me and my family just fine. Have any of you 'concerned liberals' even thought about the dead 9 year old, the fear and cost and death that they caused for a full week in one of Americas great cities, or thought of the people hopping around on one leg due to these creeps? They chose terrorism as a sport, nobody made them do it -- now they can deal with how the game is played. The fact that anyone defends them is sickening. View Comment
Dr West is a trouble maker who stirs the pot in order to create and grow American racism. Without a focus on racism he is out of work - much like Rev Al. He, and Sharpton, are the problem, and the fact that he recieves ANY PRESS at all is also part of the problem. The Voice should take caution in printing any of his hateful rhetoric too.
If the cops are guilty, they will face justice, as they very well should - white, black, latino, or whatever -- but as usual the same people jump to conclusions and claim foul over 'race'. Much like the Tawana Brawley/Sharpton ordeal, or the Obama/Cambridge professor Greene BS situation in 2009. They were very quick to publicly bury the cop before hearing the facts. And in the case of Tawana, ruin the falsely accused policeman's lives (with no apology after the fact) -- this is the same old nonsense. Do not give these race baiters any 'air time'. View Comment
If it does not cost the taxpayer any money at all, GO FOR IT. This is a 'nice' idea, if paid for by private donations and business taxes ONLY - but certainly not a priority for Pound Ridge. I do have concerns that there will be request for town funds half way thru the project if/when it goes over budget. The proposal and cost estimate seem to not be buttoned down. Especially concerning since this has been discussed for many-many months now, and reported on by the Voice numerous times - and a $7000 consultant fee was paid. Get a budget that is accurate to the penny before proceeding, so that there is no chance that taxpayer funds will be requested.
Finally - why would the articles author's opening line be 'standing room only' if in fact it was not? View Comment
I applaud Gary W and his board for keeping this issue 'front of mind'. We in PR are in better shape than other local towns, in that we have an officer at the school, which is the responsible thing to do. I do hope that the next step is long-term approval of this commitment. I pray we are not discussing it all over again at the start of next school year. If it can be voted on, then we should do that. As the article makes it sound like a full-time police presence is not confirmed after this year, i would like to understand why not. Is it board members that disagree, or is it a budget issue, or something else? All professional opinions, including Chief Ryan, have stated that the officer, in addition to every other precaution, and protocol, will keep the school safer. So, again, please help me understand what the hold-up is in approving it long term. I, and other parents/taxpayers want to understand what issues are stopping it. If we understand this, we can collectively work to get it done. If it is money, we will work together to find it. If it is board members positions, we can work to change their minds, or vote them out. Without full transparency, we as a community cannot work together to resolve this. Thanks again for your efforts, but please clarify the board's position. View Comment
I would like to understand what the criteria is for having police at the Pound Ridge Fall Festival, the parades, or at the Fireworks. Is it based on the number of people attending the event? We have police at these events, as we should. But, we are debating having police protection at a location where 200+ persons are gathered under one roof - for 6-8 hours/day. It is becoming a question of discrimination. To not have equal protection afforded children and teachers while gathered in school, as we give other citizens attending public events, borders on favoritism. I am sure everyone agrees that discriminating against any one race, religion, or group cannot be tolerated - we are better than that! Do not exclude PRES from equal rights of police protection. PRES is a public gathering place, with vulnerable citizens. If an officer is not permanently committed to PRES, we should also discontinue police at the town festivals and gatherings. Lets be fair. I think this poll is a useful tool. In addition, I would like to ask each Pound Ridge board member to publicly state their Position as well. This has been an extremely hot topic for two months and nobody on the board has stated their official position. We all have opinions, please share yours. BOARD MEMBERS - what is your vote? I do not live in Stamford, but just making a comment (i live 10 min away). You should think twice about this position you are taking. There is no harm in having a policeman at the schools. I am not talking about a huge gun control debate, that is a totally separate and valid issue/debate. A cop is a deterent, and will act to protect and save lives in case of an awful incident. Many people mention Columbine, and Ft Hood as a reason against a PD at school - because they had an armed guard and people still died. Those armed PO saved lives, and slowed and finally stopped the attackers (at Ft Hood the guy attacked unarmed soldiers). Do not think of Sandy Hook or Columbine or any other as one single tragedy. There were 26 tragedies in Newton, and 13 in Colo and so on...if 1, or 2, or any lives can be saved, it is worth considering keeping an armed officer at school. For the safety of the children, do not dismiss the idea. God bless everyone, and we hope that the violence - in school, on the streets, by guns, or baseball bats, or knives, or fists -- will subside. i think it makes great sense to have a police officer permanently posted at the school. I am pleased that we have one at PRES right now. i am no great gun advocate, and no huge fan of the NRA. This is my opinion, based on keeping our young children as safe and protected as possible. Cop in the school is a good thing. View Comment
yeah - get the corner antique shop to clean it up a little..that would be a welcome start.
Can anyone tell me if there is an ordinace for items in front of the store?? I would imagine i would receive a summons if i had that mess in front of my home, no? Get Grady to clean it up, or Fred will be holding his chest yelling 'this is the big one Lizbeth'..
seriously, if we want the village to look better, there are a few quick fixes - no donors needed. View Comment
Nice idea changing the lamp posts - even better idea tagging with a plaque those donated from private persons - very nice. I think it will certainly enhance the down town area.
I struggle with, however, that the first $7,000 of donations are going to pay for a consultant?? really? Did the donors know this money was going to a consultant? After which, we will need another fundraiser to pay for the hardware..$7,000?! Is the consultant a family member?
8 different designs? Sounds like a lot of extra work for a small task..Ever hear this one? 'How many so-and-so's' does it take to change a lightbulb??'
I am sure the intentions are great, and, the outcome will be pretty (with no light pollution - thank god!) - but it seems like a lot of wasted funds for a fairly simple project. View Comment
