Patrick Raftery, a librarian with the Westchester County Historical Society, will give the talk, which will start with Native American history and then cover the colonial period and the Revoluntary War. Early colonial families, the library notes, included the Pells, Van Cortlandts and Philipses.
The library notes that the talk will then cover a range of developments over the subsequent periods.
"Raftery will continue the discussion by looking at the impact that railroads and shipping have had on the county’s development and how commerce in general has shaped the area in which we now live. In modern times, recreation, suburbanization and historic preservation has also had significant impact on how the county has grown into what we know today."
The talk is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28 at 7 p.m.
