MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Saving one life is an incredible feat, but safely ensuring the survival of two requires a different kind of expertise. When Gina was diagnosed with colon cancer just days after learning she was pregnant with her third child, she began the search for a doctor who would not only consider her own safety, but also the wellbeing of her unborn baby.
"Dr. Jerald Wishner and Northern Westchester Hospital saw me differently," said Gina. Using robotic assisted surgery, Wishner and his team were able to successfully treat Gina and protect her growing child. "We had to tailor our plan to make sure we had two healthy patients, not just one," said Wishner. "Robotic surgery was a great option for Gina because the added precision would help protect her and her baby at the same time."
Fortunately for Westchester residents, Wishner has been designated a “Dual Epicenter Surgeon” for robotic colorectal surgery and general surgery. “This means surgeons from around the country come to observe and learn from me,” he said. “As an epicenter, Northern Westchester Hospital can bring the newest technology to our community first.” One of only three surgeons in the country to achieve the recognition, Wishner heads a group of surgeons with some of the the deepest da Vinci Surgery experience in the world.
For patients, the results are simply life-changing. "Dr. Wishner and Northern Westchester Hospital helped save my life, and the life of my baby girl," said Gina.
