Countless families drive around town each year to gaze at the wondrous lighting displays, and this year, they’ll have yet another chance.
The contest is nondenominational, and all types of holiday decor are encouraged.
There’s no fee to enter, and the judges of the event, whose Facebook group has nearly 2,000 members, will hand out 26 stars - one honoring each of the ‘Sandy’s Hook Angels.’ These stars will be based on several festive categories, including, ‘Most Beautiful,’ ‘Most Outstanding,’ and ‘Merry and Bright.’
“Couples, families with young children, and even senior citizens all love seeing the lights from the comfort of a warm car…Families have been known to get in their Christmas PJs and make hot cider and hot chocolate and drive around with the map of the homes we put online,” said one of the Facebook group’s administrators, Lois Barber told Daily Voice.
While the winners of the event will be asked to return the stars honoring the Sandy Hook victims, they will also be rewarded with a homemade star-shaped ornament as a keepsake - along with the priceless pride that comes with having one of the most dazzling displays in town.
