NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The Lions Club of North Salem marked its 46th anniversary by teeing it up at the Salem Golf Club on Monday.

But it wasn't so much about the golf as it was about helping out the community

"We do a number of things, both the community is very aware of, and those they are not," said Town Supervisor Warren Lucas, and longtime member of the Lions Club. "Every penny we raise goes back out into helping people like helping pay for fuel oil for their homes and other things."

With more than 70 participants and a goal of raising $20,000, the outing has been marked on the calendar of the Lions Club for quite some time.

"It's one of our biggest fund-raisers of the year," said Sal Pentezzi, vice-president of the Lions Club. "Our objective is to serve the community in any way we can. We are really an international organization that is devoted to helping others and this event helps raise money to do that."

Bob Loeb, president of the local chapter of the Lions Club, says the golf outing represents more that just going from tee to green and raising money.

"People reach out to us and the money goes to good causes," said Loeb. "We're always looking for new members and that's an important message. Anyone who lives in North Salem, we'd love for you to contact us. More involvement is better for the community."

Loeb says there are currently 35 members of the club, but is hoping to increase that number to 50.
