Treat Mom on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is coming quickly. Here are a few local spots where you can find delightful gifts for your mom:

Somers Custom Framing: Owner Ginny Ryan describes Mother’s Day as “Accessory Day. Scarves, jewelry, handbags and chocolate. Everyone likes chocolate.” The framing shop, which carries far more than picture frames, is featuring handmade jewelry by Michigan’s Tracy Jane as a Mother’s Day specialty. “We’ve also got some long-sleeved crocheted tops that are selling out quickly,” Ryan added. The Mexican Shack: This Somers landmark sells jewelry, southwestern products and more, much more. The Shack’s annual sale is running on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and ends on May 13, so get in now to save up to 75 percent on some items. People travel from all over to browse and buy at the Mexican Shack, located at 256 Route 100, Somers, (914) 232-8739.

Heather Maguire Florals and Botanicals: What mom doesn’t love flowers? Maquire specializes in bouquets, vase arrangements, corsages, gift baskets and handmade items. She will set aside $8 from every order placed for Mother’s Day for the benefit of Somers’ AYSO teams, bound for the national competition in Tennessee. Use the code, SOCCER MOMS. Ruth Keeler Library: The Library Fair at North Salem’s Ruth Keeler Library will feature plants from the gardens of local experts, bouquets of fresh cut flowers in old Keeler Farm milk bottles and tiny succulents in little pots, perfect as a gift from the toddler in the family. The sale is on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is located at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Here are a few suggestions for treating Mom to a special meal on May 13:

Le Fontane: Somers’ long-time favorite always remembers to honor Mother with a special menu. This year it includes hot and cold antipasti and main courses of crabmeat ravioli, grilled salmon, stuffed shrimp, roast stuffed veal, osso buco and more. Prices for appetizers range from $9 to $12, entrees from $18 to $28, averaging at about $22. The children’s menu ranges from $9.50 to $15. The Silk Garden: The elegant orient-influenced restaurant at North Salem’s Hammond Museum will offer two Mother’s Day seatings, one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. It’s a Champagne Brunch menu, featuring fresh home baked items, omelets, waffles, assorted cured meats, cheeses, smoked salmon, a pasta bar, roast salmon, roast turkey, roast beef and on and on. Desserts include chocolate torte, bananas Foster and lemon pound cake with lemon curd. The adult’s menu is $42 per person, children are $20 each and children under three are free. Vox Bar and Restaurant: North Salem’s popular French restaurant will offer a three-course Mother’s Day menu from noon to 7 p.m., with your choice of dining indoors or on the patio (weather permitting). Selections include lobster bisque and chilled oysters among the appetizers, filet mignon, grilled lamb chops and salmon among the entrees and a chocolate and brandied cherries terrine, creme brulee and assorted sorbets among the desserts. Along with coffee or tea, the price is $65 for adults, with a special selection for children at $15. The address is 721 Titicus Road (intersection of Routes 121 and 116) in North Salem.
