Breaking News: 39-Year-Old Charged In Rape Of Minor In Bedford

Croton Falls Firefighters Answer Call

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - At 8:47 p.m. on Thursday evening, the Croton Falls Fire Department was dispatched to a house at 41 Sunset Drive on a report of a fire in an upstairs bedroom. The homeowners had called 911 when they discovered the blaze.

According to Jason Blauvelt, 2nd Assistant Chief, the cause was an electrical failure, but so far there are no details about the cause of the blaze.

The Somers Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene, but was contacted en route and told that the Croton Falls crew had succeeded in containing the fire. No one was injured.

The Croton Falls Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1892 to protect residents and businesses in the Town of North Salem, parts of Southeast and Carmel. All members of the organization are unpaid volunteers who have been trained in firefighting, extrication, water/ice rescue, specialized rescue, fire prevention education and Emergency Medical Service.

It comprises about 65 members, all of whom are committed to serving their neighbors 24 hours a day, every day. Almost all members do this volunteer work in addition to their daily professions, occupations and family responsibilities.

The department also offers ongoing educational courses for members, as well as CPR and first aid training for the general public. It is always glad to welcome new volunteers who will bolster the ranks and provide a diverse range of services. Stop by the firehouse in Croton Falls any Monday night for an application.
