Man Busted With BAC Nearly Triple Limit In Route 6 Stop, Sheriff Says

A Route 6 speeding stop led to an aggravated DWI charge for a Mahopac man who was driving with a blood alcohol content nearly triple the legal limit.

A member of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on patrol shortly after midnight on Saturday, Dec. 8 stopped a vehicle on Route 6 in Carmel when it was spotted speeding in the area. The vehicle eventually came to a rest near the intersection of Drewville Road and Crafts Road.

During the stop, a Sheriff’s Deputy found that 30-year-old Michael Murtagh was allegedly intoxicated. Murtagh was arrested at the scene and a breathalyzer found that his blood alcohol content was more than .18 percent.

Murtagh was transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors. Murtagh was released on $4250 bond and scheduled to appear in the Town of Carmel Justice Court at a later date to respond to the charges.
