Should the deadliest railroad crossing in Metro-North history be closed permanently? How about another dangerous rail crossing at Cleveland Street?

The town of Mount Pleasant, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and state Department of Transportation are seeking public comments on permanently closing the crossings during an 8 p.m. hearing on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

On Feb. 3, 2015, Ellen Brody of Edgemont was killed when a northbound Metro-North train collided with her Mercedes SUV. Five male passengers on the commuter train also were killed when the railcars they were in caught fire. Multiple lawsuits were filed in the fatal crash. More details on the fatal collision were reported by Daily Voice here.

Ken Noonan of Concerned Residents of Valhalla said the closing of the Commerce Street and Cleveland Street crossings "is possibly the most important issue to come before the residents of Mount Pleasant since the closing of the road over the Kensico Dam post 9/11."
