Somers Lacrosse Player Kicked Off Team, Suspended For Racial Slur

SOMERS, N.Y. – A Somers High School junior varsity boys lacrosse player has been kicked off his team and suspended from school after shouting a racial epithet as several female African-American students earlier this month, News 12 Westchester reports.

The 15-year-old sophomore lacrosse player was returning from a game with his team when they saw the four African-American students visiting from New Rochelle High School for a sporting event when the incident occurred, according to the report. The rest of the team also faced disciplinary action, News 12 reported.

Somers Assistant Superintendent Kenneth Crowley apologized to the students last Friday Rochelle and stated he and his district will use this incident as an educational opportunity for all Somers School District students, according to the report.
