NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Telephone service has been restored to the various Westchester municipalities that lost power on Tuesday morning, including North Salem. Most service resumed at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Locally, the power loss affected North Salem, Somers, Bedford and Mt. Kisco.
The problem was caused by an accidental cut to an Optimum LightPath cable. Optimum LightPath is a subdivision of Cablevision.
On Wednesday morning North Salem Supervisor Warren Lucas commented, The phones came back about 9:45 last night. Its not a good situation when someone cuts one wire and the whole system goes down. But I thought it might be a lot worse. It was very quiet. We got a lot of work done.
Cablevision spokesperson Charlstie Laytin Veith said that "service was interrupted for a small number of customers for a part of the day Tuesday, the result of damage to a portion of our network. We worked quickly to make the necessary repairs and service was fully restored by early evening. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers."
