Westchester's Magee, Head Of NY's Most Powerful Teachers' Union, Steps Down

The head of New York's most powerful teachers' union said Tuesday that she will step down from her post in April as head of NYSUT, which has 600,000 members.

Karen Magee, who once served as head of the Harrison teachers' union in Westchester, said she intends to lead efforts made by other unions to strengthen the role of women in the workplace, according to lohud.com.

Magee, 57, was elected to lead the 600,000-member union in April 2014. More about her can be found by clicking here.

LoHud.com reported that Magee served during a tumultuous period in the state's education history.

In her new role, Magee will work with the New York AFL-CIO and the American Federation of Teachers, according to lohud.com.
