NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Lois Colley, the 83-year-old North Salem woman whose death is being investigated as a homicide, was a fixture in the community who was the wife of Eugene Colley, a multi-millionaire who owns more than 100 McDonald's franchises.
Colley was found in the laundry room of the couple's estate by a worker on Monday evening, state police said. The cause of death has been ruled to be blunt force trauma to the head, and the time of the death is believed to be in the late afternoon Monday, according to state police.
Lois and Eugene Colley lived on Windswept Farm, an estate with multiple structures spread over approximately 300 acres at 258 Titicus Road (Route 116) in North Salem.
The Colleys' polo-playing son, Bruce, allegedly had an extra-marital affair with Kerry Kennedy when she was married to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Bruce Colley's then-wife, Ann, later filed for divorce. Kennedy and Cuomo also divorced.
Lois Colley was a longtime North Salem resident who was active in fox hunting and golf.
Eugene Colley, known as "Gene," runs the Croton Falls-based Colley Group.
