She was born and schooled in Torrington, and attended The University of Connecticut, where she received her BA in physical education in 1943. She loved sports, especially tennis, and was an avid bridge player, as well as a jazz pianist.
Bernstein is survived by her husband of 65 years, Irving Bernstein of West Hartford, Conn.; her son, Dr. Kenneth Bernstein of Los Angeles, his wife, Ellen and their three children, Colette, Sabrina and Daniella.
She is also survived by her daughter, Joan Gabel-Myers of Brewster, her husband, John Myers, and their children, Zachary and Leah Gabel, Henry and Grace Myers, and Rosemary and Carlos Jaramillo of Elmont, and their daughter, Annaleen.
Private funeral services will take at 11:30 a.m. On Friday, April 12, 2013, in Knesseth Israel Cemetery, Ellington, Conn.
