On Tuesday afternoon, a Connecticut State Police trooper was on routine patrol at I-84 westbound at Exit 6 in Danbury when a vehicle passed it in the left lane going 75 mph, state police said.

The trooper pulled over the driver, Dimitrios Jimmy Tziokas, 41, of Norwalk, just west of Exit 5, police said.

Tziokas told state police his cruise control was set at 74 mph. The speed limit on this section of highway is 55 mph, police said.

The vehicle smelled of marijuana, state police said. When the trooper asked whether there was pot in the car, Tziokas handed over a small bag of suspected marijuana, police said.

He was then asked to get out of the vehicle, and it was searched by a Connecticut State Police Narcotics canine at the side of the highway, state police said. K9 Favor, a female black Labrador retriever, alerted to two large bags stuffed under the passenger front seat, state police said. Inside the bags were two large vacuum-sealed bags of suspected marijuana, state police said.

The total seizure was 2.23 pounds, or 1,012 grams, of marijuana, police said.

Tziokas was arrested and charged with operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended/revoked registration of license, speeding on highway up to 85 mph, illegal sale of a controlled substance and possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana.

He was processed at Troop A and released on $10,000 surety bond with a court date of April 22, police said.
