Former Horace Greeley drama teacher Christopher Schraufnagel, 42, was initially charged with felony sexual abuse but agreed to a plea deal of three misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child. It would avoid a trial, and require Schraufnagel to serve three years of sex offender probation and give up his teaching license.
New Castle Justice Douglas M. Kraus wrote a letter to both sides asking for more information why the deal doesn't require sex offender registry. He also asked for more information about Schraufnagel's cancer diagnosis, lohud.com says.
Kraus is is giving lawyers on both sides until Sept. 16 to respond before the case is due back in court Oct. 6. Meanwhile, civil lawsuits are pending against the Chappaqua Central School District and Schraufnagel by five former students, lohud.com reports.
