Lake Carmel Man, 31, Accused Of Possessing Pot With Pipe, Needle

CARMEL, N.Y. -- A Putnam County sheriff’s deputy has arrested a 31-year-old Lake Carmel man on drug-related charges, authorities said.

The arrest came about when Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin stopped a motorist who had committed traffic violations on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley on Aug. 2 about 6:50 p.m., police report.

As the deputy approached the vehicle, he detected the odor of marijuana emanating from its interior, according to officials.

After investigating, Irwin determined that the driver, identified as Daniel R. Hutchby, was in possession of a glass pipe containing marijuana and a hypodermic needle, police report.

The deputy also discovered that Hutchby was wanted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant, according to officials.

Hutchby was arrested by the deputy and processed at the scene; the suspect has been charged with criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police report.

Hutchby was turned over to the custody of the DCSO, pending a future appearance in Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charges, according to officials.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
