Man Charged With DWI After Hitting Brewster Police Vehicle, Fleeing On Foot

BREWSTER, N.Y. -- State Police arrested a 29-year-old Wingdale man and charged him with aggravated driving while intoxicated on Tuesday after an incident in which he allegedly hit a Brewster police car and then fled the scene of the accident.

Troopers were dispatched to Main Street in Brewster to assist village police with a hit-and-run in which Edy A. Perez, who was operating a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder, struck the police car and fled on foot, state police said. Troopers found Perez running on Main Street and placed him in custody with further investigation revealing that Perez was intoxicated, according to state police.

Perez was charged with felony DWI because of a prior conviction of a DWI related offense in 2013. The defendant had a Blood Alcohol Content of .20 percent.

He was arraigned in the Town of Patterson Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail with $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the Village of Brewster Court on July 11.
