NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- This year's Parents and Reading Partners Initiative, hosted by Pequenakonck Elementary School PTO and BOCES, is introducing students to a number of well-known authors.
“The PARP Author Visit Program brings beloved children’s authors to PQ to further nurture and grow our students’ love of reading and writing,” said parent Ali Jackson-Jolley, who organizes the visits with parent Veronica Smith. “During these grade-specific visits, authors bring their stories to life, share their experiences, offer writing advice and answer student questions.”
This year, the entire school was treated to a visit by famed children's author Patricia Polacco.
“It was a meaningful, remarkable event for teachers and students alike,” said Jackson-Jolley.
Many of the visiting authors are also offering small group writing workshops for students during their visits. Other authors visiting PQ through April include David Adler, Karen Kaufman Orloff, Bill Thomson, Alyssa Satin-Capucilli, Kate Klise and Tommy Greenwald.
